FINRA's latest short-interest file (positions as of September 30) shows the typical S&P 500 stock would take 3.2 days of normal trading to cover its short positions. Total S&P 500 short interest is down 6% over about three months. The most heavily shorted by days to cover: T. Rowe Price, Kimberly-Clark, Erie Indemnity. By sector, Utilities is the most shorted and Information Technology the least.
