The gains were narrow - only 173 of 501 S&P 500 stocks rose, and the equal-weight S&P 500 fell 0.3%, so the largest companies did the lifting. Consumer discretionary (+1.8%) and technology (+1.4%) led, while utilities (-2.0%) and real estate (-1.2%) lagged. In the latest readings, the 10-year Treasury yield is 5.1%, the VIX is at 20.0 (+3.5) and oil is $101.9 a barrel. Macro headlines centered on inflation and the Fed.
