Morning brief, Tuesday October 6: futures point higher

Before Tuesday's open, S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100 futures are slightly higher, Dow futures are higher and Russell 2000 futures are little changed. Reporting today: Constellation Brands (after the close). Yesterday's session: Stocks closed higher yesterday. The S&P 500 rose 0.7%, the Nasdaq-100 gained 0.9%, the Dow gained 0.2% and the Russell 2000 rose 0.7%. That leaves the S&P 500 up 0.7% this week and up 14.5% for the year. Beneath the index, 317 of 503 S&P 500 stocks rose and 186 fell. Materials (+1.3%) and communication services (+1.2%) led, while real estate (-0.3%) and industrials (+0.1%) lagged. Treasury yields rose - the 10-year Treasury yield is 5.3% (up 4 basis points), the VIX is at 15.3 (-1.1) and oil is $96.2 a barrel. Macro headlines centred on the Fed and bond yields.
